1. What is Elbow Ceramic?

Elbow ceramic, also known as ceramic lined elbow, is a pipeline bend internally coated with high-hardness ceramic material, commonly used in systems transporting abrasive bulk solids such as fly ash, clinker, ores, coal powder, sand, or cement.

The inner ceramic lining offers exceptional hardness (approx. 9 on Mohs scale), delivering wear resistance 10–12 times higher than standard steel, especially in 90° bends where material flow speed and impact are intense.

2. Structure of Elbow Ceramic

A typical elbow ceramic consists of two main layers:

• Outer Shell: Made from carbon steel, stainless steel, or wear-resistant steel depending on the application

• Inner Liner: High-purity alumina (AL₂O₃) or zirconia ceramic, bonded using high-temperature adhesive or mechanically spot-welded

Common types include:

• Ceramic tile lined elbows

• Monolithic ceramic pipe elbows

• Rubber-ceramic composite elbows
